OMG, have you seen this show? If you are a southern parent, you have to watch Chrisley Knows Best. You will love and hate Chrisley at the same time. It premiered on March 11th and airs on USA Network on Tuesday nights at 9 central.
I’ve just discovered Chrisley and his family in the last week and I am hooked. I am NOT a fan of reality television and prior to finding this show, have not given a second glance at any of them. And now… If I could make an outline of what I want my blog to look like, it would be the transparent, total southern-ness of this reality tv show. People talk about how funny Duck Dynasty is, and I have laughed at the two episodes I’ve watched, but this show is different. This is true southern “dixie” humor, with lots of euphemisms and metaphors.
There are times that I think Todd is too strict as a father, but it is his strict enforcement of his preset boundaries that make him so loveable. It makes me think that it is really true that children want boundaries. That must be true because none of them have run away. The oldest married daughter, Lindsey, even wants her father and husband to have a better relationship. Tonight’s episode of Todd and his son-in-law going target shooting was nothing short of hilarious; and the previous episode I watched was how Todd “took his son’s car away” for disobedience. How many of us have done this? Probably most of us, but not the way Todd, did!
Of course, another reason I love this show is the flamboyant personality of the father, Todd. He loves fashion and he is a man! According to Reality TV World, Chrisley was even encouraged to “come out of the closet,” with rumors that he likes men. His response was priceless, “There’ll be no coming out, I don’t live in a closet, but if you’d like me to escort you out of yours I’m happy to do so.”
This show doesn’t paint southerners as ignorant rednecks, but just funny, flamboyant southern family members. In my mind, this is what Mark Twain would be like in modern times.
