The cool, crisp feel of a white cotton blouse paired with the sophistication of black trousers is a classic. It is the go-to uniform of most women at one time or another. So how can we wear our “uniform” in a way that makes it our own look? Well, the next two Fashion Friday’s will show you just how to do that. I was privileged once again with an invitation to The Club in Birmingham, AL, where Darlene Real-Higginbotham with The Real Model Connection directed another fabulous fashion show. This month was White House Black Market from the Summit, with the manager, Kellie Davidson helping out.
This week, I’ll be sharing the sporty summer selections that Kellie and Darlene organized and next week will be the flirty and fun dresses for the season. I hope you all enjoy these snippets of the fashion show as much as I enjoy writing about them. And, if you are ever in the Birmingham area, you should check in with Darlene Real at Appearance Matters to see when her next show is scheduled. We are so fortunate to have her in Birmingham organizing these shows. There just aren’t enough fashion shows outside of fashion week! Darlene has lots of things going on around the state. She can do complete makeovers on all ages and teach our young ladies the importance of manners. She’s the “Emily Post” of Birmingham.
Darlene and Kellie prepare us for the upcoming styles.

We begin today with Trish, who reminds me of Jackie O in her cool shades. She is so lovely in this lace tunic with black crop pants. The soft, romantic top softens the black crops and keeps us looking up to date at every age.
Each of these models are gorgeous, so I’m featuring them a bit differently today. In addition to modeling the clothing, I’m sharing how their personal beauty shines even brighter in these selections. And this necklace is the perfect addition to this outfit.
We were all wondering how Staci will keep cool in this next outfit. It is smoking! Here we are introduced to one of WHBM’s accent colors. Having white and black basics to pair with the bright accent colors of the season keeps our wardrobes fresh.
And isn’t she a natural beauty?
White and dark navy stripes is a must-have for summer with it’s seaside allusion.
Renata is showing us how to add a pop of Moroccan style prints to our wardrobe.
Her exotic beauty fits perfectly with this outfit.
These medium-wash jeans look fabulous on Dallas. She looks very stylish, yet comfortable, in this lightweight gray jacket. The navy printed blouse dresses up the jeans and blends perfectly with the jacket.
We all need a little navy in our wardrobe and Barbara is adorable in this geometric pattern. Navy and white are classics, but the pattern here gives us a new detail that would be perfect for those of us who live near the coast. The navy blouse is fun and the white sweater will add just enough warmth year round.
And last, but certainly not least, is Judy in this fuchsia, asymmetrical top and white ankle pants. This is such a bright and cheerful choice. It matches Judy’s personality perfectly.
“Fabulous at every age” is interpreted perfectly with Darlene’s guest models pictured below. These young lovelies could very well be future models.
Darlene is the founder of The Real Model Connection and President of Appearance Matters, Inc. She is also a fashion stylist and coach. If you would like to contact her for a style update, call her at 205-902-4808.
It was such a fun day. See you with flirty skirts and dresses next Friday.
