It’s that time of year again. The next few months will be cold, damp and dreary so what better way to start the new year than to invest in new linens, towels and pillows. January White Sales are just in time.
Speaking of just in time, Goldilocks must have been in search of the best place to spend the winter when she discovered the “just right” bed of baby bear. As I search through the sales this month, I hope to find 3 just-right things as she did, to make my winter days a little cheerier.
Hibernating is not a bad idea when Cuddledown is the just-right brand for winter. They could have been the linens that Goldilocks discovered in that famous bed. If you live in a cold climate, consider the flannel sheets for extra comfort and warmth; and they come in just the right size.
If your climate is warmer, or if like me, you wake up throwing covers off the bed, consider the Outlast Temperature Regulating sheets.
A Place Remembered in Fairhope, AL has a great selection of luxury linens that will fit your bed perfectly. In addition to sheets, they have lovely nightgowns, linen sprays and gifts that make the case for staying in.
As you continue your search through the house for those just-right linens, Macy’s has a fabulous sale going on right now. Ralph Lauren Cotton Sateen, Martha Stewart’s Flannel Sheets and INC International Concepts 100% Model sheets, are all marked down. In addition to great prices on these linens, Macy’s has a great site for helping to choose the best sheets for your budget. Their buying guide sheds light on the thread count, fabric choices, mattress sizes as well as great tips on care and how to reduce wrinkles.
One of their tips for reducing wrinkles is to take the sheets out of the dryer early and line-dry them. I remember when my mom would dry our sheets on an outdoor clothesline. I have found nothing that compares with the fresh-air scent and crisp feel of those sheets.
Once you’ve found your sheets, it may be time for new bed pillows. Goldilocks may not have known this, but the best test for your pillows is to fold them in half, squeeze out the air as best you can, and then let go of the pillow. If it doesn’t bounce right back into shape, your pillow is no longer just right. To further investigate your pillow style, Bed Bath and Beyond has the best guide.
In addition to bed linens, we can find great buys on towels during January white sales. I went through my towels about a year ago and was embarrassed at how old and tattered they were. Some of them were 33 year old wedding gifts. The only things that I didn’t update last year during the white sales were bath sheets and kitchen towels. When we married, the closest thing to a bath sheet was a beach towel, so we didn’t own any of that just-right size. I will fix that this year. Target and Overstock.com have good deals on bath products.
As I clean up cold porridge, I will need new kitchen towels. One of the best articles I’ve read on choosing kitchen towels was in The Washington Post. I’m on the lookout for the Le Jacquard Francais towels mentioned in that article. In the meantime, I hope your January white sales are all just right.
